She left teaching for one summer of house painting. That was six years ago.
Rosa runs an eight-painter company with no office staff. The quotes, the schedule, and the invoices all have to run from her phone.

One summer that stuck
Rosa taught art to seventh graders for eight years. One summer she painted a neighbor's house for extra money, then three more, and by August she had a waitlist. She did not go back in the fall.
Six years later, Clean Lines Painting runs eight painters through Portland's short dry season. There is no office. There is Rosa, her phone, and a lot of color swatches.

Why she switched
She was writing estimates in a notes app, texting them as screenshots, and collecting deposits by check. In a region where you get maybe five good painting months, a slow quote was a lost job.
Now she walks the house, builds a Good, Better, Best quote from her templates in the driveway, and the homeowner signs and pays the deposit from the link she texts them.
“In Portland you get five good painting months. A quote that takes a week is a job you don't get.”
What changed at work
Her crews see their week on one calendar, and before and after photos go straight onto each job. Homeowners get updates without Rosa typing them one at a time.
Because the quote goes out the same day, she wins more of the jobs she walks. She will not put a number on it, but her summer is booked by April now.

What changed at home
Rosa still paints for herself. She has a studio in the back of her house that sat empty for three years.
This winter she finished six canvases and showed them at a friend's gallery on Alberta Street.

“My studio sat empty for three years. This winter I finally used it.”
