01/Why we shipped it
Phase 1 of the homeowner portal (shipped in v3.5) was a minimum viable surface: photos, schedule, and a “contact your contractor” mailto link. Phase 2 closes the three loops most homeowners actually wanted to close themselves — knowing whether the crew has arrived, seeing what they’ve paid and what’s outstanding, and submitting a small change request without picking up the phone.
The change-order request flow is the most opinionated part of the release. Homeowners can describe the change in a free-text box, attach up to three reference photos, and propose a budget delta. The submission lands in the contractor inbox as a structured record with one-click approve / counter / decline, and on approval it auto-generates a change-order line item on the existing job and emails the homeowner a confirmation. The whole loop is contractor-controlled — no homeowner can change the contracted scope on their own.
