Siding built for sun, hail and termites

Siding on a Central Texas home takes afternoon sun, spring hail and constant pressure from termites and woodpeckers. We install fiber cement systems with our own crews, flashed and sealed correctly, and priced as three clear options.

Why fiber cement fits Central Texas

Many Austin homes built from the 1970s through the early 2000s used hardboard or wood siding that swells, rots and invites termites. Vinyl can warp on west walls in summer and cracks under hail. Fiber cement holds its shape in heat, does not feed termites, resists woodpeckers and stands up well to hail when installed with proper clearances.

It also takes paint well. Factory-finished boards hold color much longer than field-painted wood, which matters on walls that face the afternoon sun for hours every day. Most of our siding clients pair it with limestone or brick already on the home.

What a correct siding install includes

Siding is a rain screen, not a waterproof shell, so what goes behind it matters most. We replace damaged sheathing, install a weather-resistive barrier, and flash every window, door and roof-to-wall intersection before a single board goes up. Boards stay at least six inches above soil and two inches above hard surfaces to keep water and termites away.

Clearance matters more than usual here. Central Texas clay and caliche soils swell and shrink with the seasons, so beds around the foundation can rise over time. We point out landscaping that sits too high and adjust trim details so siding stays dry for decades.

Choosing a style your HOA will approve

Most neighborhoods in Round Rock, Cedar Park and Lakeway have architectural guidelines for siding color and profile. Lap siding with a smooth or light wood-grain face is the safest choice for traditional homes. Board and batten and mixed profiles suit modern and farmhouse designs and are increasingly approved in newer subdivisions.

We prepare the HOA submittal with color chips, profile samples and a marked-up photo of your home. Approval usually takes two to four weeks, and we order materials and schedule the install as soon as it arrives, so there is no second wait.

Siding

The fiber cement looks great and the crew was careful around our landscaping. Only reason for four stars is the HOA approval took longer than expected and pushed our start date by two weeks. Not really Hartline's fault, and Carmen kept me updated the whole time.

Response from the owner

Thank you for the honest review, Dana. HOA timing can be tough, and we're glad Carmen kept you in the loop. Enjoy the new siding.

Siding

We replaced the rotted wood siding on the back of the house with board and batten fiber cement. The crew found some soft sheathing under the old boards and fixed it at the price listed in the proposal. The house finally looks finished.

Roof replacement

Carmen walked us through three options with real photos of our own roof, not a sales binder. We picked the Class 4 shingles. Esteban's crew started at 7, were gone by 5, and the yard was cleaner than before they came. Our insurance agent took the discount paperwork without a single question.

Response from the owner

Thank you, Priya. Carmen and Esteban's crew loved working on your Allandale home, and we're glad the discount went through smoothly.

Questions, answered.

How much does new siding cost in Austin?

Fiber cement siding on a typical Austin home runs about $22,000 to $55,000, depending on how many walls are sided, the amount of trim, and whether you choose primed or factory-finished boards. Homes with a lot of limestone or brick need less siding and cost less. Your proposal lists each option at one fixed price.

Is fiber cement better than vinyl in Texas?

For most Central Texas homes, yes. Fiber cement holds its shape in heat, resists hail better, does not feed termites and looks closer to painted wood. Vinyl costs less up front and needs no painting, but it can warp on hot west walls and crack in hail. We install fiber cement because it performs better here.

Can you replace only part of my siding?

Yes, when the damage is limited and matching boards are available. Partial replacement is common on the lower courses of a wall, where sprinklers and soil contact cause rot. Paint is the challenge, since new boards need to blend with old ones. We usually recommend repainting the full wall so the color matches.

Does homeowners insurance cover hail damage to siding?

Often, yes, when hail cracks or punctures siding. Cosmetic dents may or may not be covered depending on your policy language. We include siding, gutters and window screens in every storm inspection, because adjusters look at the whole house, and damage to soft metals and siding helps show the size of the hail.
